I want to say a GRATE big thank you to everybody for all your kind vibes and thoughts and prayers!!! I took them with me and they kept me strong all day today!

I wish I could write with fantastic news and say everything went grate... but we were given some news today that's made me very sad. My youngest daughter has been diagnosed with scoliosis, same as my older daughter has.

So I need a miracle.... that the curve in her spine will stay very mild. that it will hold as she gets older. that she'll beat the odds. I know I'm asking for a lot. But I'm praying anyway.

so, once again my children keep teaching me what really matters in this world. thanks guys for being there for me. I can't tell you how much that means.
my love to everybody... yes... even you smi2les.
hugs ~dancin'

My highschool sweetheart wore a brace for a few years during adolescence (sp?) to help prevent her scoliosis from getting worse. Another obstacle for me trying to get on with being a teenager! Before you worry about boys, know that this is as often an intermittent inconvenience as much as a real problem later. A lot of folks are problem free, and the earlier the diagnosis, the more can be done before any big stuff like surgery become even part of the conversation, much less a top option. I encourage you to see a Physical Therapist when your girl is old enough to listen to what she would be encouraged to do. There are many postural positioning and strengthening activities that can make this a mild inconvenience and a thing of the past some day. If it's a problem now and she's really young, the PT would want to see you as well to teach the family how to help with the positioning. Some one who specializes in pediatrics would be the way to go. I work in a different healthcare setting than peds, but I do see this kind of thing from time to time. Good luck to you. The Forum has shown we do mean to support one another...

Hey Dancin

I am sure you were wanting a better report.

One positive thing to add to all that has already been said is that science is making new advances that may help both your daughters.

Keeping you in my prayers!

Chris

This is the kindest thread in the 1.5 years I've been reading this forum.

It truly warms my heart to read this. I hope some of our 'lost' brothers(they know who they are) get a chance to read this...

The forum is likely back. No bold predictions, but alot feels right for the first time in moons.

That's right...the SDH thread (for the Mrs) and then this one...it shows what is right about this place.

And of course, the Strangelove thread was a pleasant distraction too.

I think good vibes/prayer/whatever is contagious! Seeing all these pleasant uplifting posts is definitely having a positive effect on me. Sure beats all that arguing, etc.

I'm feeling very down so surfed the net for advice and saw your posting about scoliosis. After reading your post I noticed it was dated on my birthday. Maybe a sign that I can help you??? I'm no expert about health but I am 47 and have scoliosis in my spine. It's not very obvious. I exercise which helps immensely. I didn't realize what my problem was until I was in my 20's; too late to undo the scoliosis.

There are many venues out that might help, if you are able to afford them: Of course there are M.D.'s. Recently on the news I saw a new treatment for spines called decompression therapy???? Supposed to be great for neck and back problems. I've recently encountered an odd, yet amazing treatment called "Body Talk" which is based on the body's ability to heal itself. I've encountered people who swear by it. Rolfing is something I read about years ago for aid in helping all types of problems.

I'm one of those people will to try unusual, non-invasive procedures to fix my ailments.

I'm a mother too so know how much we want to help and protect our children.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hi Dancin' - Sad news indeed. Your daughters are both fortunate to have such a caring mother.

I'll pray for the best possible outcome. Miracles do happen, ya know!

Reading your post nearly brought on tears, I know all 3 of you see this from different angles. You see your 2 beautiful daughters and have to wonder if they will be ok in the long run, which must be more difficult than I can imagine. Your oldest sees her younger sibling and knows the difficulties she'll face down the road. Your youngest...well she just needs you and her older sis to tell her it will be ok and that she is loved beyond words.

As a parent, we just wish we had an easy answer or solution, but un-ending, unconditional love is the best we have to offer. So...love'em 'til it hurts!

We(your LMA buddies) will do our part by thinking and praying for your family.

Hi Dancinbears: For what its worth I thought I should share this with you - I was surfing the gogglebox this evening and alighted for a second on the Ellen Degeneres show, which I never usually watch, when this amazing looking woman came on. There was something extraordinary about her, apart from her obvious beauty, which kept me glued. Apparently she appears on a show called Ugly Betty. She talked about a disease she had while growing up called scoliosis, which I had never heard of before. She said that pilates was a great way to help alleviate pain caused from scoliosis. She said she wished that somebody had told her that exercises would have helped when she was younger. So when I read your post tonight I thought it too much of a coincidence to ignore and cos I have two young sons who are the world to me, I imagine what you're going through and well, you know...

I wish somehow that I could add to what has been posted, but this group has already said it all: you are strong, so your daughters will be strong as well. Where there is life, there is hope and joy: and at your house, it is obvious that life flourishes with the power of the dance.

I think that they are luckier than you realize to have you there to guide and love them so that they can grow spiritually straight and tall. Your pain, tears, and love will become their strength.

And their strength will carry you all through to the light.

As more of a lurker than poster, I don't usually have too much to say.
This time I will make an exception. DB all positve vibes to you and your daughter. Keep the faith, and "get by with a little from....friends"(which you obviously have a lot of here).

Damn.

Girl, if there's anything that any of us out here in Forumland can do, do not hesitate to post something. Perhaps there is a foundation, and those who are able to make a contribution can do so in your name. I speak for all who replied today when I say we'll continue sending good vibrations, although I know others will reply with their own sentiments. It does sadden me to learn this, though, but your girls have a mom with a bright and warm disposition, so I know they will weather their difficulties with the same cheer.

Best wishes.

If it's any solace, my sister, myself, and about 30% of the kids we knew in grade school got diagnosed with scoliosis, and I've been standing straight and tall with no back pain or anything for the entire 20 years or so since that diagnosis. She probably wont have any problems.

I am sorry to hear your news Dancin'. My two brothers went through a series of chronic issues as kids and into adult life. I always had a nagging guilt that I was strong and healthy. At some point I realized that strength ended up best being channeled into empathy and love. The best thing I did for my brothers was care for them and treat them to the happiest lives they could possibly live. Love will see you through. Know that we stand with you in prayer and support.

Jumpin in a little late-trying to catch up on forum-less, grok-less days and nights only to see your post. As your other friends here have said, you are all young, strong and loved which is more than many folks have. I remember a few pics you posted of you and the girls, and the smile power is awesome!
